Mambang : The Soldier of Fortune

is a stormbringer of a song, remembered even now, but one will never know how it would have performed on the charts. The song written by David Coverdale and Ritchie Blackmore was never released by Deep Purple as a single.

Journalist carry a huge burden, and I will be the first to admit that at one time or another, each one of us had to be a Soldier of Fortune.

But I feel I'm growing older
And the songs that I have sung
Echo in the distance
Like the sound
Of a windmill going round
Guess I'll always be a soldier of fortune

Many times I've been a traveller
I looked for something new
In days of old when nights were cold
I wandered without ....

Trust me on this, the industry will not to admit it, but the norm and standards to that was long established even before I was there and it is still THERE

But what cannot be forgiven is to be a SOLDIER of FORTUNE without finess and skill sets. Readers won't be happy where the reporting looks, smells and feels like biased reporting.

Journey man journalist, Jose Barrock, who had been with STAR, Business Times, New Straits Times, Malay Mail, KiniBiz and now with the Edge, should know better, that his reporting on Serba Dinamik is under par and below the belt.

The journalist should never be the story, therefore if it is not a comment piece, then  one should not put their own view to influence the readers.

READ ; Many following the press conference were stumped, and left trying to recall the last time a lawyer questioned an audit firm’s work. And KPMG is not just any audit firm; it is one of the Big Four accounting firms with offices in some 150 countries and over 227,000 employees worldwide.

How MANY?  and how MANY is considered  MANY.  What if Serba Dinamik, once it settles the audit issue goes through the list of reporters who attended the press conference, and find out that MANY were actually NOT stumped, what will the Edge do? Withdraw the article, admit that the reporting was compromised?

How can that MANY profesional journalist be stumped when even part timers know much better? READ ; Placing KPMG on the accused box for negligence is NOT something new In Malaysia.

If it had stopped there, one could argue that a lack of wisdom and fortitude had won the day, but it did not.

The following lines, I consider more towards YELPING than reporting. VIEW BELOW ;

How MANY times must Jose  Barrock  ask the same question to the Securities Commision's executive chairman Syed Zaid Albar  in a different manner to get the response he wants?

Syed Zaid to his credit was wise enough not to be sucked into that agenda. 

That however DOES NOT MEAN that the SC or its minnion The Audit Oversight Board are competent enough to oversee the mechanisms that govern the audit sector. 

Why you may ask? Well for one, in order to be placed in the competent category one must first be able to do the 9 to 5 work promptly.

If you are not up to par,  lack foresight or even diligence to UPDATE THE  WIKIPEDIA PAGE ON THE SECURITIES COMMISION, i believe , I need not say MORE other than READ : According to publicly disclosed figures, the English version of the website averages about 255 million pageviews a day

Back to the journey man, and what may have prompted those snide remarks on the oil and gas company, Serba Dinamik shall be up in the air FOR NOW.

Looking back,  one MUST NOT FORGET that within the Oil and Gas industry , that ONE,  is best remembered for READ : The Great Oil Discovery that led to a Limit Up of a Stock but then it was discovered....

Discovery can surely heal us all. To discover that the art of hitting below the waist is FORBIDDEN and that it can work both ways as out there in the wild, the ART is known to others as well, the only difference though is they can hit faster, harder and better.
