INDEED, China's Huawei had paid dearly for it, unnoticed even by insiders, business leaders as well as the general public who have an inbuilt perception that Huawei had lost out to Ericsson in the race to build Malaysia's 5G network.
HUAWEI did not lose out to Ericsson to secure the RM12 billion 5G contract. The truth is HUAWEI did not even bother to bid for it. READ : Ericsson, FiberHome, Nokia and ZTE were the only 4 bids for Malaysia's 5G contract that was by 50 experts from 10 nations.
You cannot win if you do not bid for the job. It was pure arrogance that has put them in the place they are now.
It is for this reason, AT NO COST, can Malaysia be allowed to lose face by bowing to the demands from the telcos, who mostly have tied up with Huawei , for the Government to ditch Digital Nasional Bhd, and deal with Huawei via the telcos either directly or indirectly.
Did we get the best possible deal? I believe, the current deal, is close to the best that Ericsson can afford to give as a purely commercial entity.
