State of the Nation : Grey Rhino On A One Way Ticket To Malaysia.

YES, the two tonne beast known as the Grey Rhino is charging full steam ahead towards Malaysia.

THE question here is will we be able to recognise the in a hurry beast on time or let it trample us due to our glaring naivety.


NAIVETY is when, we actually believe that Azam Baki is what ails the MACC, disregarding the wisdom of a man I hold in very high esteem, China's esteemed statesman Mr Deng Xiaoping who eloquently put it , "It doesn't matter whether a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice".

THE basic concept of a Grey Rhino is that they are high probability and high impact risks which we see coming, and for various reasons outlined in the book, we do nothing about until the risk (The Rhino), is upon us. We either jump aside and the Rhino misses us, or we get trampled to death.

IN a nutshell, there are too many people who shouldn't be in the employment of the MACC are in the organisation, with Azam Baki not being one of them. 

AZAM Baki is actually single handedly moving the MACC in the correct direction, but getting pinned for the stupid decisions made by READ  : OTHERS.

THIS malice has even spread to the traditional media, with ironically is being led by none other than the New Straits Times.

THE paper's coverage  coverage on the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) has READ : Grey Rhino written all over it in Capital LETTERS.

DON'T bother waiting for the BLACK SWANS to arrive, to discuss the white elephant sitting in the room, because this project can and will sink us much deeper than READ : the USD12 billion, IMDB sinked us into.

AT an interest rate of 3.25 per cent, spread over 20 years after a seven year moratorium,  the READ : RM39.1 billion loan from China's EXIM Bank is eventually  going to cost tax payers about RM45 billion in interest cost, without even taking into account the Government subsidies required to make the rail link palatable. 

CHINA, itself is READ : speeding toward a US$1 trillion black hole due to its Rail revolution turning out to be  a ‘money pit’ as debt soars for one of Beijing’s most prestigious projects.

NEVERMIND, China, and never mind that rail tonnage as a cargo mover, even in READ : ASEAN are on the decline.

ANTHONY Loke of the DAP, who happens to be the transport minister, short of being called out as being DISHONEST should explain how the Government came up with the math the ECRL will be handling 53 million tonnes of cargo annually by 2030.

TO put things into perspective, the National Rail company only handles about 6 million tonnes a year.

EVEN before completion of ECRL the writing is on the wall, courtesy of Channel News Asia which states READ :that Job opportunities supposedly created by the project, fell short from the targeted 80,000 estimate.

ONLY 23,000 job opportunities were created from this project, of which only 4,600 jobs were in Malaysian wage earners pocket, while the balance 18,400 jobs were all in foreign hands.
