IF Anwar Ibrahim becomes Prime Minister READ : Harapan can mend economy, S’poreans will come to M’sia for work so claims the DAP, without answering a very fundemental question while exposing a key flaw in Pakatan Harapan, whereby it intends to keep laws that blatantly discriminate against the Malaysian labour force.
On the shore, beyond the tropical sea
You will stand to welcome me
On the shore, beneath the sky so blue
All my dreams at last will come true
Oh, Malaysia - land of glory
WHY would the majority of Singaporeans who live in a market place where there is hardly a minimum wage regime want to move to a minimum wage regime, from a progressive wage regime (note for cleaners, Singapore has set a minimum wage of SGD 1,000) ?. READ : Singapore's ministry of manpower states clearly as a matter of national policy, MOM does not prescribe minimum wages for all workers in Singapore.
IN Singapore, wages are determined by market forces and there is no minimum wage for foreign unskilled labour, unlike in heavenly Malaysia.
HOW do Singapore politicians then protect the interest of their voters who just like in Malaysia are workers?
LOCAL QUALIFYING SALARY is a scheme set up by law by Singaporean Politicians to protect Singaporean workers wage rights. Under the LQS READ : The Local Qualifying Salary (LQS) determines the number of local employees who can be used to calculate a firm's Work Permit and S Pass quota entitlement. The LQS is $1,400 today. The LQS ensures that local workers are employed meaningfully, rather than on token salaries for firms to access to foreign workers.
BUT in Malaysia , if you are an 18 year old school leaver fluent in Bahasa Malaysia, you might be paid a RM1500 wage, which the the Malaysian Law demands that even a fresh 18 year old Bangladeshi who has never been to school, cannot read and write or even speak Malay, must be given the same RM1500 salary.
